Cetshwayo wins the Victoria Derby Trial at Flemington
Potala Palace Hails From An Outstanding Family
Ridgemont Highlands’ G1 winning sire Potala Palace, whose unbeaten son Katak is set to continue his career in Singapore, hails from an outstanding family, and this family could be headed for more glory if promising three-year-old Cetshwayo has anything to do with it.
A gelded son of Dundeel, Cetshwayo stamped his classic claims when he won the Victoria Derby Trial at Flemington on Wednesday.
He will now be given his chance of starting in the $2 million Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) at Flemington on October 31.
After scoring by a head under Jamie Kah in Wednesday’s 1800m trial, Cetshwayo firmed from $101 to $26 with TAB for next month’s blue riband event.

Cetshwayo was having only his second race start on Wednesday after finishing fourth in a 1400m maiden at Geelong on September 6.
Trainer Danny O’Brien said after the win, “We’ve had him in work for four or five months. He’s a nicely bred stayer and we’d love to think he could hold together and be here on Derby day.”
Other notable performers from this family include G1 winners Fastness, Gamut, Golan, North Light, Sought Out and Tannery as well as this season’s top-class two-year-old filly Dandalla.
