The regally bred Irish champion Pathfork was responsible for a second graded winner in seven days when his daughter Jet Start claimed the G3 London News Stakes at Turffontein on Saturday- with Pathfork gelding Mr Flood having won the G3 Lebelo Sprint (1000m) in fine style the previous weekend.
(Remarkably, Pathfork went close to enjoying a feature race double over the past weekend, with his multiple stakes winning daughter Madame Speaker finishing second in Friday’s Listed Lady’s Bracelet at Fairview).
Trained by Paul Peter, five-year-old Jet Start ran on strongly under log leading jockey Warren Kennedy to claim the 2020 London News Stakes by a head over G3 Victory Moon Stakes runner up Green Haze, with the likes of millionaire Divine Odyssey and Equus Champion Return Flight further back in running.
Bred and owned by the Dimakogiannis partnership, Jet Start’s first graded victory took her tally of wins to six, with the mare’s latest win taking her earnings to R588 925.
Jet Start, third in the 2019 Listed Jacaranda Handicap, is one of 17 stakes horses sired by G1 boyleports.com Vincent O’Brien National Stakes winner Pathfork, a Distorted Humor half-brother to 2019 G1 Preakness Stakes winner War Of Will.
The sire’s previous notable performers include G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Mighty High and graded stakes winners My Friend Lee and Red Chesnut Road.
From the same family as recent G1 winning stars Almond Eye, Romanised and Siskin, as well as important stallions El Gran Senor and Redoute’s Choice, Pathfork has a single lot on offer at the 2020 Cape Premier Yearling Sale, but has four yearlings on offer at February’s Cape Yearling Sale.
