Pinnacle Becomes Latest Canford Cliffs Winner

Ridgemont Highlands’ inform stallion Canford Cliffs came up with another eye catching two-year-old winner when his first South African crop daughter Pinnacle justified favouritism at Fairview on Monday.

Placed in each of her three previous starts, the Gavin Smith trained filly was dispatched a warm favourite for Monday’s Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (Fillies) over 1200m, and she duly obliged.

Under Marco Van Rensburg, Pinnacle made the most of her racecourse experience and went straight off to the lead in Monday’s race.

At the top of the straight, Pinnacle kicked again and pulled clear in the closing stages to shed her maiden by an emphatic four lengths.

Bred by Ridgemont Highlands, Pinnacle, who is out of the Daylami mare Kalami, is yet to finish out of the money in four starts.

She is the fifth winner to have emerged from Canford Cliffs’ first South African bred and born crop, with this crop also including Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes victor Cliff Top and the debut winners Body Electric and I Am Regal.

A former Irish classic winner and five time G1 winner overall, Canford Cliffs is currently the Leading First Season Sire in South Africa by both stakes and individual winners.

Canford Cliffs, who is already the sire of the earners of more than R336 million in prize money, has five lots on offer at this month’s National Yearling Sale.
