The Cape based Irish champion Pathfork was responsible for an eye catching feature race winner over the past weekend, with Pathfork’s son Mr Flood running out a courageous winner of the G3 Lebelo Sprint (1000m) at Turffontein on Saturday.

Bred by Willem Engelbrecht Jnr, four-year-old Mr Flood defied a lengthy layoff to land Saturday’s R200 000 contest by three-parts of a length for trainer Lucky Houdalakis and jockey Marco Van Rensburg.

Mr Flood, who accounted for such graded stakes winners as Van Halen, Down To Zero, Prince Of Kahal and Rivarine, when victorious in the 2019 Lebelo Sprint, has now won four of only six starts and his last three in a row.

Out of the Jallad mare Last Word Pam, Mr Flood was a R50 000 buy from the 2017 Cape Yearling Sale.

Pathfork, whose son Canadian Bolt shed his maiden by four and a half lengths at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Sunday, has now been responsible for 17 stakes horses, with that tally headed by G1 Allan Robertson Championship winner Mighty High.

A half-brother to the 2019 G1 Preakness Stakes winner War Of Will, Pathfork has a single colt on offer at the 2020 Cape Premier Yearling Sale.
