Lucky 13 For Canford Cliffs

Fresh off enjoying a notable international success courtesy of daughter Crystal Cliffs’ win in Saturday’s G2 Nassau Stakes, Ridgemont Highlands’ inform sire Canford Cliffs came up with an eye catching winner at Turffontein on Sunday.

Rock The Fox became the 13th winner to have emerged from Canford Cliffs’ first South African born crop of runners when she made all to win impressively at Turffontein on Sunday.

Under Calvin Habib, the Sean Tarry trained two-year-old never looked in danger of defeat in Sunday’s #ThisIsRacing Welcomes You Maiden Plate (1600m), with Rock The Fox powering away to win by five and three-quarter lengths.

Bred and owned by Ridgemont Highlands, Rock The Fox had finished second in each of her first two starts before contesting feature races in her subsequent two outings.

Out of the Foxwedge mare Quick Brown Fox, Rock The Fox was trying the 1600m trip for a first time on Sunday.

She joins a growing list of winners to have emerged from Canford Cliffs’ first local crop of two-year-olds, with this number also including Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes/Listed East Cape Nursery winner Cliff Top, impressive debut winner Daisy Buchanan, and the likes of Body Electric, I Am Regal and Whatyouwaitingfor.

With 13 individual first crop South African winners, Canford Cliffs equals Vercingetorix and Badger Land on that mark, just one win behind Western Winter, Trippi, Gimmiethegreenlight, and Rafeef (14 winners) for first season juvenile winners.
