Ridgemont Highlands’ five time G1 winning sire Canford Cliffs enjoyed a notable group race success at Moonee Valley on Saturday when his 3yo daughter La Falaise dead-heated for first in the G2 Antler Luggage Fillies Classic 1600 metres.

Under jockey Ben Melham, La Falaise flew up late to share the victory in Saturday’s Fillies Classic with Fascino.

La Falaise, who is out of the Exceed And Excel mare Exceedingly French, has now won two of only six starts, and trainer Henry Dwyer said after the win his filly would now be spelled.

The filly is a 14th stakes winner for sire Canford Cliffs, who went close to enjoying a group race double at Moonee Valley on Saturday with the sire’s millionaire son Cliff’s Edge finishing second in the G2 Schweppes Crystal Mile when beaten a short head by Chief Ironside.

Canford Cliffs’ other notable performers in 2019 include brilliant Carey Group Buckhounds Stakes winner Salouen, Gran Criterium runner up Cima Emergency, German stakes winner Cliffs Art and G3 performer Snapraeceps.

Winner of five G1 races in a row, and a group winner at Royal Ascot three years running, Canford Cliffs is now sire of 34 black type horses in total, with his offspring having banked over $18 000 000.
