Canford Cliffs son wows in Summer Juvenile Stakes triumph

Ridgemont Highlands red hot resident stallion Canford Cliffs has made a very encouraging start with his first South African bred runners this season, and the five time G1 winner came up with a very impressive stakes winner when his son Cliff Top romped home to a facile win in Saturday’s Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes at Kenilworth.

Bred and owned by Ridgemont, the Alan Greeff trained Cliff Top jumped out quickly and was never in danger after the start.

Under a superb, front running ride from Greg Cheyne, Cliff Top stamped himself as a hugely exciting future prospect when drawing clear to win by one and a half lengths.

The Summer Juvenile Stakes was a great result for Ridgemont Highlands, who not only bred and own the winner, but also bred runner up We’re Jamming.

Runner up on his only previous start, Cliff Top is out of the Western Winter mare Baqueira.

Following his impressive start to his South African stud career, Canford Cliffs is currently the country’s Leading First Season Sire by earnings, and is also third on the Leading Sires of 2YOs, by stakes, in South Africa for 2021-2022.

The former star miler, and five time G1 winner, has a cracking draft on offer at this weekend’s Cape Premier Yearling Sale including a half-sister (Lot 119) to G3 Prix Du Cap winner Rose In Bloom, a half-brother (Lot 133) to G1 SA Oaks winner Pine Princess, and a half-sister (Lot 165) to Saturday’s G1 Pongracz Cape Flying Championship third African Rain.
