Canford Cliffs Filly Game In Victory

Ridgemont Highlands’ inform stallion Canford Cliffs came up with a sixth winner from his first South African bred and born crop of runners when his two-year-old daughter Easy Living scored a courageous win at Fairview on Friday.

Trained by Gavin Smith, Easy Living was sent off a 11-10 tote favourite for Friday’s Welcome To Nelson Mandela Bay Racing Maiden Juvenile Plate (1000m) with the filly having finished fifth on her only previous start.

Under JP Van Der Merwe, the Avontuur Thoroughbred Estate bred filly proved too strong for her rivals with Easy Living going on to post a neck win on Friday.

Out of the Var mare Easy Game, Easy Living was a R200 000 purchase from the 2021 National Yearling Sale.

Her five time G1 winning sire Canford Cliffs (pictured above) has made a fine start with his first South African two-year-olds and is currently the country’s Leading First Season Sire of 2021-2022.

Other notable two-year-olds representing the son of Tagula this season include Listed City Of Cape Town Summer Juvenile Stakes/Listed East Cape Nursery winner Cliff Top, smart debut winners Body Electric and I Am Regal, and the classy Big Slick – a winner of two of his first three starts.

Canford Cliffs also made headlines as a broodmare sire at the 2022 National Sale, with his G3 Three Troikas Stakes winning daughter Fish River dam of a colt who made R900 000 at the National Sale.
